Preparing for senior school…
Year 6 is a time of transition and preparation for Senior School. As such, Year 6 children are given extra responsibilities and privileges throughout School. This includes the roles of Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Girl, Captains of sports teams, Heads of Orchestra etc.
The pupils are also given access to their Common Area, where they can earn free time to spend with their friends playing pool, table tennis or XBox (once their work is done) in a more informal and less supervised environment.
The primary focus, however, for Year 6 pupils and teachers (Mr Jeff Oldham, Senior Teacher, and our Deputy Head, Mrs Angela Tallett), is gaining entrance into their first choice Secondary School. As such, we have a dedicated programme of examination preparation for pupils, including mandatory lunchtime booster sessions for English and Mathematics during the Autumn Term. This last academic year we have had a 100% success rate for our Year 6 children gaining access to their first-choice Secondary School. Two of our pupils performed so well in fact that they were awarded Academic Scholarships.
Throughout the year, but notably in the summer term to fit in with preparation for entrance exams, Year 6 are able to enjoy a variety of trips – including a week long trip to France.
