Academic Excellence

A range of academic ability is celebrated at Grace Dieu. Pride is taken in the fact that some pupils depart and enter senior schools with scholarships while others, with lesser talent, receive the support and encouragement that they need to maximise their potential. Academic rigour is considered important. To that end, dedicated and committed teaching combines with small classes to provide an environment in which demands are made of the intellectually gifted and help is given to those who are less able. All pupils are encouraged to take a pride in their achievements.

The programme of study at Grace Dieu receives its framework from the National Curriculum but is in no way restricted by it. All children are entered for Key Stage Tests and outstanding results are achieved.

At the centre of the manor house, steeped as it is in history, lies the superbly equipped suite for Information and Communication Technology. The school is well aware of its past, and is enriched thereby, but it looks to the future with enthusiasm and vigour.

 Key Stage 2 Results 2008

The school is proud of the fact that children possessing a range of academic ability take the tests, and there were some excellent results this Summer for our Year 6 pupils. (Last year's percentages are in brackets).

    • 93% (89%) of candidates in Mathematics achieved either Level 4 or  Level 5
    • In English, 92% (93%) of candidates achieved Level 4 or Level 5
    • 100% (95%) of candidates in Science achieved Level 4 or Level 5
    • Of the 28 children taking the tests, 9 obtained Level 5 in all three subjects

Key Stage 1 Results 2007 (KS1 results for 2008 coming soon)

The Key Stage 1 results were equally impressive. Teacher assessment in Reading, Writing and Mathematics is informed by the administration of the statutory tests, unless children are working at below Level 1.
Level 2B represents achievement at the nationally expected standard for 7 year olds. Level 2a or above represents achievement above the nationally expected standard for most 7 years olds.
