Grace Dieu Pre-Preparatory Department
The Pre-Preparatory Department
for 3-7 year olds is designed
specifically to provide our youngest pupils with an inspiring, fun
and secure environment in which to begin their school days.
Children gain self confidence and a yearning to discover and explore
the world around them. Classrooms are bright and colourful and
interactive whiteboards support all areas of the curriculum. Small
class sizes and a team of qualified teachers and nursery nurses
ensure that children have an outstanding start to their education,
have fun and enjoy learning in each other’s company. Each
of our carefully designed classrooms allows easy access to a
spacious and secure playground.
The Pre-Preparatory Department has
access to all the facilities in the main school including the School
Nurse, the Chapel, Sports Hall, Arts Hall, ICT Suite, tennis courts
and swimming pool. The school grounds are extensive and visited
regularly for investigative and exploratory purposes as part of our
outdoor learning.
The school Day begins
at 8.50 am and finishes at 3.30 pm and we provide wrap around care
from 8am - 6pm.
Early
Years/Foundation Stage (Ages 3 to 5)
The youngest,
nursery age children are called Cygnets. Enrolment into Cygnets is
possible after the child’s 3rd birthday on either a full or
part-time basis. The Reception Class, called Swans, is for children
aged 4+. This is the year when the children come to school
full-time.

In the Early Years the rate of development is rapid and starting
school is a special and important time for every child and family. We take into
account that each child is an individual and will learn in a variety
of ways. When following the Foundation Stage Curriculum, we enjoy playing
and using our hands to explore and learn. During the day practical
activities feature highly as well as well as learning to read, write and find out about
numbers. We regularly go outside to learn and explore our beautiful school
grounds (120 acres).

Years 1 and 2 (Ages 5 to 7)
The
transition from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 is
smooth and straightforward.
Being in one building ensures the progression is natural and
effective. Children are encouraged to further develop their skills
and understanding, spending much of the day with their Class Teacher
covering the core subjects. Specialist teaching in French, PE and
Music begins at this early stage. Learning is guided by the National
Curriculum, but as an Independent School, there is greater freedom to
explore other areas of interest. Children in Year 2 are prepared for
Key Stage 1 tests calmly and invariably achieve or exceed their
potential.
There is a
range of after-school activities organised by teaching staff and
working parents will be delighted to know that the After-school Club is
open until 6pm each day.
This facility is provided at no extra charge.
