We have two Year 2 classes (with no more than 20 children per class), which are taught by qualified teachers Erika Scattergood and Olivia Ash. They have in-class support from Helen Doheny (NVQ Level 3) and Corrine Clarke (NVQ Level 3).
Our creative curriculum both continues and builds in Year 2, with pupils inspired by topics such as Fire & Ice, Kings and Queens, and Florence Nightingale. Alongside continuing to develop knowledge and key skills, pupils also start to investigate, predict and evaluate.
Some of our Topic Webs can be seen by clicking here:
Year 2 pupils also continue with their specialist lessons in French, Music, Outdoor Learning, PE and Swimming.
Whilst most of their time is classroom based, Year 2 will also use the ICT suite, the Arts Hall, Sports Hall, the Chapel and the 120 acres of grounds. Pupils also benefit from a range of topic-based trips. Recent trips include visiting Richard III Visitors Centre, Twycross Zoo, the Leicester Botanical Gardens, Mount St Bernard’s Abbey, and the National Forest Adventure Farm.
We choose not take SATS tests as we monitor and track all of our pupils’ progress each and every term. From Swans (Reception) children are tested termly in both English and Maths.
The progression into Year 3 is handled sensitively, as this is a move from the Pre-Prep building into the Prep department housed in main school. Numerous visits and inductions are arranged, which are carefully planned by staff. As the children will have used the Hub and the ICT suite regularly, the transition is an exciting one!
