A successful 500 words for Layla!

Layla successfully made it through to the first round of the BBC’s renowned 500 words competition!

Layla’s success is particularly impressive given that her entry was selected from 131,798 entries. Her piece, entitled ‘Ooops – I’m off!’ was one of the 5,000 entries selected to go to the Reading Agency for the second round of judging.

500 Words, established seven years ago with the aim of getting children excited about reading and writing, is one of the most successful story-writing competitions for children in the world.

We encouraged our pupils to take part, showing them the live lesson on the day the challenge was launched.  We are delighted that Layla’s work has been recognised, especially given that she devised, wrote and submitted her entry independently – showcasing just how self-motivated our pupils learn to become. Grace Dieu Manor School has a strong academic reputation, which is born out by successes such as Layla’s.
