Cygnets is our Nursery Pre-School class, for children aged 3-4 yrs. It is a wonderful stepping-stone between Nursery and School.
Our Nursery children move up into the Cygnets room the term after they have turned 3 years of age. Or, children can join us for the first time into Cygnets, in preparation for the Reception Class (Swans) at Grace Dieu School.
Our Cygnet rooms
Cygnets are based in two classrooms within the wonderfully spacious Pre-Prep Department. Each room has direct access to the secure play area outside – which has a whole host of fun play equipment to enjoy!
Our Cygnets team:
Alison Simpson, who has nearly 30 years experience working with pre-school age children, leads Cygnets. She is supported by both Dawn Blundy (NVQ Level 5), who has 20 years experience, and Susan Allen (NVQ Level 3).
The Cygnets curriculum
Children enjoy a play-based Early Years foundation curriculum with plenty of opportunities to grow in readiness for school. In preparation for school, during term time, all children take part in weekly letters and sounds sessions, meaning they are able to begin to develop their early reading skills.
Each week, also during term time, children are able to (depending on the days they attend) take part in specialist music classes, PE, Outdoor Learning, Swimming and French. All taught by qualified teachers and all included within the daily fees.
In the school holidays, Cygnets become more activity based, child initiated learning. This adeptly prepares them for the difference between school terms and holiday – all in one setting!
Families joining the Cygnets class at Grace Dieu can choose to join either on a sessional basis, for a full or part day, depending on availability. We accept FEEE vouchers (15-30 free government childcare vouchers), as well as working tax credits.
With School readiness in mind, our Cygnets wear a simple School uniform. All School uniform can be purchased from the Stevensons website or in our second hand shop.
